What I Do: Direct Support for Neurodivergent Adults

Most people think “direct support” means showing up to help someone with daily tasks.
In my work, it means something deeper: honoring the whole person, their autonomy, and the unique ways their brain and body work best.

I help neurodivergent adults navigate life in ways that fit them — whether that’s through building sustainable routines, developing accommodations, tackling executive function challenges, or simply creating space for self-reflection. My work blends practical help with emotional and cognitive support, because both matter when you’re building a life that actually works for you.

My Specialized Approach

I am certified in Person Centered Thinking through The Learning Community for Person Centered Practices (TLCPCP), a framework that helps people identify and live in alignment with what matters most to them — not just what services or systems say they “should” do.

I also work within the Core Competencies of the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP), a set of ethical and professional standards that guide my work:

  • Building respectful, trusting relationships

  • Supporting self-determination

  • Promoting advocacy and informed choice

  • Maintaining ethical and professional boundaries

This combination means my approach is grounded in structured best practices and deep respect for individual autonomy. While these methods are widely used in disability services, I apply them specifically to neurodivergent adults who are often over-functioning, highly capable — and yet underserved.

Why This Matters

Many adults who excel in certain areas still struggle with hidden barriers like executive dysfunction, sensory needs, or burnout. Traditional support systems often overlook these needs, leaving people labeled as “fine” while quietly burning out.

My role is to create space, tools, and strategies that help people thrive without masking, overextending, or abandoning their own needs.

"Neurospicy services allowed me to overcome major life roadblocks - social growth, career planning, and the recognition and understanding of how neurodivergence plays a role in my personality. I'm grateful for the open-minded and experience-based approach that a Theresa brings to her work. I am grateful for the support that allowed me to break out of my comfort zone, and into a better life."
